چکیده
Premature baby unit at Southmead Hospital where she arrived 1J hours after birth. The whole of her body was found to be covered by petechial haemorrhages which in Places merged to form larger lesions resembling bruises. She had a very large spleen , and a very large liver and was thought to be very slightly jaundiced. It was soon realized that this baby had some quite unusual problem and our first thoughts were *hat either she was suffering from some overwhelming infection, which seemed most likely, or that she had some blood disorder. The mother's blood group was AB, ^h-positive so haemolytic disease seemed very unlikely unless a very unusual type ?f incompatibility was present. Investigations were started at once. Pulmonary cytomegalic inclusion-body disease in a diabetic.
Cytomegalic inclusion-body disease was found at necropsy in the lungs of a 57-year-old diabetic man. The characteristic large cells were found in all parts of the lungs. The alveolar walls showed no cellular infiltration, supporting Hamperl's suggestion that the cytomegalic virus alone may be incapable of causing pneumonitis. A small focus of aspergillosis was also found in one lung. The rarity...

A case is presented of pulmonary cytomegalic inclusion disease in adult. The condition was only diagnosed post mortem. A detailed description of the inclusions and inclusion-bearing cells is given. Histochemical observations which reveal an outer and inner zone to the intranuclear inclusion body are confirmed. Electron microscopy shows the viral basis of the infection. The morphology of the vir...

Cytomegalovirus infection was believed for sixty years to be caused by an infectious agent. However, the virus causation of cytomegalovirus infection was not established until 1956 when Smith isolated inclusion-producing virus from the salivary gland of a seven month old infant dying of adrenal carcinoma and from renal tissue of a second infant dying of cytomegalic inclusion disease. Before thi...

Many different malformations of the central nervous system can now be produced in the offspring of animals exposed during pregnancy to x rays, drugs, and dietetic deficiency or excess of vitamins, but proof of environmental causation of analogous human conditions is understandably scarce. Occasional neural, somatic, or gonadal maldevelopment has been reported after the administration to pregnan...
